World Bank’s Temporary Trade Barriers Database Updated
After at least 5 years without an update I recently discovered that the World Bank’s Temporary Trade Barriers Database was updated in March 2021. This database collects information on the use of temporary trade barriers in the form of antidumping, countervailing, and safeguard measures across over 30 countries since the 1980s through 2019. It is the most reliable and complete accounting of these type of trade barriers.
The World Bank seems to have taken a low key approach with respect to this update. Either I missed the announcement of the new release or the perhaps the World Bank did not announce the update. Additional confusion is created by the fact that the earlier World Bank pages linking to the database still link to the 2015 version of the database and the World Bank pages state that the project was discontinued. If you google “TTTB world bank” or “GAD world bank” you are given links to the outdated database. It was a total fluke that I stumbled upon the updated data.
I emailed the World Bank team leader on the project (Jose Signoret) and he asked the database be cited as
Jose Signoret, Chad Bown, Milla Cieszkowsky, and Aksel Erbahar (2021) "Temporary Trade Barriers Database, available at https://www.worldbank.org/en/data/interactive/2021/03/02/temporary-trade-barriers-database"
