FIRST EDITION GLOBAL JURIST AWARD
Call for papers under the title: “2030: a new horizon for International Economic Law?”
Universidad Externado (Colombia), Universidad de Zaragoza (Spain), Pontificia Universidad Católica (Chile), Pontificia Universidad Católica (Peru), Universidad Nacional de Rosario (Argentina), Universidad Tecnológica (El Salvador), as well as the Latin American Network of International Economic Law (RED LAT-DEI) are honoured to present the first edition of the Global Jurist Award. This Award is embodied in a call for legal essays under the title of “2030: a new horizon for International Economic Law?”.
This call seeks to open a forum for reflection and debate on the future of International Economic Law. This year 2020 is unfolding in a highly unpredictable and disruptive way, without setting aside any legal, economic or social scope from the crisis originated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Based on this new and extremely volatile scenario, the present call for papers wishes to look ahead into the future and to promote contributions to the development of International Economic Law (IEL).[1] Taking the year 2030 as a time horizon, the Global Jurist Award wishes to recognize an author (or authors)[2] that accurately assess IEL’s institutional present and also offers lucid proposals on how IEL’s undergoing changes throughout the present decade of the twenties should be implemented.
Essays submitted for the Global Jurist Award must be unpublished[3] and comply with the rules of style stated here[4]. The author or authors, of any nationality, must have a undergraduate title in law, economy or other disciplines related with social sciences, or be currently enrolled in an university program in one of the disciplines referred previously. Author(s) can only submit one essay to this Award. The essays must follow the form of a standard scientific paper, containing footnotes and bibliographic references.
After the review procedure performed by the Global Jurist Award evaluation committee, all the selected contributions will be published in a special issue of Revista Con-texto: Revista de Derecho y Economía (printed ISSN: 0123-6458; digital ISSN: 2346-2078), directed by professors Álvarez Zárate and Fach Gómez. The referred special issue will be available on the journal’s web page on march 2021.[5] The publication of these essays does not generate costs for their authors. Revista Con-texto has open access to its content, following the principle that making research freely available to the public encourages greater global knowledge exchange. Thus, its content is distributed under the license Creative Commons Atribución -NoComercial-CompartirIgual. The special issue will also be printed later by Universidad Externado (Colombia).
The essays presented to the Global Jurist Award must be submitted to the e-mail [email protected] under the subject “Call for Essays -Global Jurist Award” within the following dates: July 15, 2020, until November 1, 2020. In December 15, 2020, the Global Jurist Award’s sponsors will publish the name of the winner, who will receive a certificate and a set of legal books donated by the institutions promoting the prize. An online legal event is also planned, involving the Universities that support the Award, and at which the winner will publicly present his or her work. Likewise, the winner will be invited to join the evaluation committee of the II Global Jurist Award -whose announcement will be made in June 2021-.
[1] Under the context of this award, the idea of International Economic Law (IEL) should be interpreted broadly, covering at least such legal-economic areas as: international trade, international investment law, international arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms (ADRs), competition law, financial and stock market law, consumer law, economic analysis of law, etc.
[2] Joint submissions (two authors) are accepted.
[3] That is, neither the whole nor part of the essay may have been previously published on paper or on the Internet in the same or another language. Nor can it be in the process of being evaluated by another journal or editorial body.
[4] The essay must be presented in Arial narrow font 12 pts, using one and a half space and must be a minimum of 5 pages and a maximum of 30. The original language of the essay may be Spanish, Portuguese or English. The essay must follow the APA citation system.
