(A Little) More from Hillary on TPP

From Bloomberg:

Hillary Clinton says Trans-Pacific Partnership trade pact doesn’t meet her criteria for dealing with currency manipulation, “one of the main reasons for job loss going back several decades.”
  • NOTE: Democratic presidential candidate makes comments in Henderson, Nev., after event where she was endorsed by International Union of Painters and Allied Trades
  • Clinton tells reporters TPP doesn’t include “enforceable provisions about currency manipulation”
  • “I think that’s a big deal”
  • “I just don’t think that when you add it all up, it meets the standard” for support
  • Clinton says she hasn’t yet read text of deal, but has conferred with others who have

Whenever people talk about the need for enforceable currency provisions, I like to point out that we already have them in Article XV of the GATT.  I know those provisions are kind of vague, and no one has tried to use them, but they do exist nonetheless.
