Jeb Bush Revives the FTAA

In a foreign policy address today, likely presidential candidate Jeb Bush said (at 38:05) that "the focus [of US policy towards Latin America] ultimately needs to get back to a Free Trade Agreement of the Americas."

Of course, that idea failed once before, but could a new president with a connection to the region put it back on the agenda?

It's a long way off before we might have a third President Bush, so don't start planning locations for the FTAA secretariat just yet.  But I lived in Florida when he was governor and have seen him a bit more than most.  I think many people would say that regardless of what you think of his policies (I like some, dislike others), he has a good command of the issues and is a very strong candidate.  You can watch his speech at the link above and judge for yourself!
