Brandon Wu of Global Trade Watch reports on a public hearing on the proposed United States-Trans-Pacific Partnership Free Trade Agreement, where, he notes, a USTR official made the following point:
Today's hearing was to be a "different exercise than that which we've been doing for the past few years," and one of the things USTR wanted to discuss was whether the current FTA template is "adequate and effective" for moving forward and if it is an appropriate means for meeting U.S. policy goals.
I think we all have the sense that things are changing, but we still don't know exactly where they are going. Will we get any insights from the Ron Kirk hearing next week?
