Would The Failure of the Doha Round Take the WTO Down With It?

I have noticed in a recent article in the Washington Post the resurgence of an idea which is frequently mentioned, namely that the failure of the Doha Round would mean the end of the WTO:

the time is fast approaching when [Lamy] must step in, lest the Doha round fail,
taking the once-promising World Trade Organization down with it

.

Since it appears that the failure of the Doha Round is now a realistic possibility, this means (if this hypothesis is true) that everyone involved in WTO negotiations would have to think twice before accepting this failure. Of course, for us who study WTO law, this hypothesis would mean that our knowledge would become suddenly obsolete! More seriously, it would mean that the collective price paid by the international community for this failure would be much heavier than it appears at first glance.
