Censorship is usually thought of as conflicting with trade rules. Here we see a trade rule (IP protection) that potentially goes hand in hand with censorship. An incendiary combination.
This supports my speculation about the legal link between the US complaints against China on IP protection enforcement and market access. Legally, burning books strengthens China's position in both cases.
It would, however, be interesting to receive a list of the book titles burned (I would skip the DVDs). I wonder if Voltaire and Vonnegut, or Milton Friedman and Amartya Sen, for that matter, would be on the list.
