Associate / Full Professor for International Economic Law with a specialization in Trade Law (100 %)

Position
The candidate is contributing to excellence in research, teaching and outreach activities at the World Trade Institute. The successful candidate will contribute to a vibrant interdisciplinary research environment and will be playing a key role in WTI teaching programs that represent an international benchmark for contemporary legal education in international economic law. The core of the curriculum are the MILE and the LL.M. (TRAIL) programs, in which participants are trained in the law, economics and political science components of international trade and investment.
The successful candidate is expected to teach 4 hours per semester at the Law School to be coordinated with the Department of Economic Law. In addition to the MILE and the LL.M., the WTI organises a transdisciplinary doctoral school to which the candidate will also provide intellectual and managerial leadership in collaboration with other WTI professors. Moreover, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Institute of International and European Economic Law (IEW) and its Managing Director who equally serves as a non-executive Director of the WTI.
Required profile
The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:
a) Highest quality record in research and teaching in the core areas of international
economic law;
b) Demonstrated interest and proven experience in securing interdisciplinary multiyear and multi-institution projects;
c) Track record of abilities to raise funding for research;
d) Existing reputation (or clear and substantial potential) in the field of international trade law;
e) Additional expertise in trade-related legal fields is a plus (e.g., investment, sustainability);
f) Experience as PhD and post-doc supervisor;
g) Teaching experience in multicultural environments;
h) Management skills, excellent team player and demonstrated social competence.As the working language of the Institute is English, the successful candidate will have published and taught in English. Knowledge of the German language is a plus. In light of the leadership role attributed to the new professor, prior management experience of academic or other entities is highly desirable. Furthermore, as the WTI regularly works with international organizations, governments, business associations and NGOs, experience in these areas is highly desirable.
