This is from Senator Mitch McConnell, as quoted in Inside US Trade:
“So TPA -- Trade Promotion Authority -- is in place for the next president whoever that may be and the current agreement, the Trans-Pacific agreement, which has some serious flaws, will not be acted upon this year,” McConnell said in Aug. 25 remarks at the Kentucky State Farm Bureau Ham Breakfast. “But it will still be around, it can [be] massaged, changed, worked on during the next administration. So I hope America will stay in the trade business and to do that its going to have to be done on the bipartisan basis.”
What kind of massage does Senator McConnell have in mind? Maybe one that works the tobacco carveout out of the TPP?
