Clinton, the Democratic presidential front-runner, responded in writing to a question on the lame-duck session from a coalition of Oregon labor unions and environmental groups by stating: “I oppose the TPP agreement — and that means before and after the election.”
...
On the Oregon questionnaire, in response to questions about provisions in the TPP addressing human rights and labor conditions, Clinton said: “I’m not interested in tinkering around the margins of our trade policy. I think we need a fundamental rethink of how we approach trade deals going forward.”
Generally speaking, I'm in favor of "fundamental rethinks" of how we approach things. But what could she mean here? I can't find the questionnaire itself, but the article makes it sound like she would be going further on human rights and labor issues. But further in what way? I hope someone in the media asks her.
ADDED: Inside U.S. Trade has the full questionnaire response here. It doesn't look to me like she has in mind any kind of fundamental rethink. She just repeats a few of her past criticisms, and suggests various things that I would characterize as "tinkering around the margins."
