Here's something President Obama just said:
“If we open up the possibility that individuals and the United States can routinely start suing over governments, then we are also opening up the United States to being continually sued by individuals in other countries.”
Although having watched the video myself, I think he really said this:
“If we open up the possibility that individuals in the United States can routinely start suing other governments, then we are also opening up the United States to being continually sued by individuals in other countries.”
That kind of sounds like it could be a critique of ISDS. But actually, it relates to legislation that would allow victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks to sue Saudi Arabia’s government.
