Now that the Commission has offered its reform proposal for ISDS in the TTIP, the politics of CETA get more interesting with regard to ISDS. As I understand it, there is still some question about whether CETA needs only European parliamentary approval, or EU member state parliamentary approval as well, but regardless, some parliamentary body has to approve it. So how will parliamentarians view the CETA ISDS provisions in the light of the substantial revisions proposed for TTIP?
First of all, will those currently objecting to ISDS consider that the TTIP reforms are sufficient to meet the concerns they have?
In addition, will this group of critics accept a CETA (and also a Singapore FTA) that has the old version of ISDS, with the new and improved version only coming into effect for TTIP? Or will they, having seen the TTIP reforms, accept nothing less for ISDS from now on?
