Many of you have probably noticed a new WorldTradeLaw.net web site. Some aspects of the site are free for everyone, so I thought I'd mention one particular issue here on this blog: How to link to PDF versions of WTO DS documents on the site.
On the old site, when you clicked on, for example, a link to a WTO AB report, the report would open in the browser, using Adobe Acrobat or the Reader. The URL bar would display a link that looked like this: http://www.worldtradelaw.net/reports/wtoab/ec-sealproducts(ab).pdf If you wanted to send someone that link, or create a link on your own web site or blog, you could just copy and paste that URL.
Things work a little differently now. Because of various problems caused by using Adobe, we found our own PDF viewer. So now when you click on a link on our site, you get a link that looks like this: http://worldtradelaw.net/document.php?id=reports/wtoab/ec-sealproducts(ab).pdf The document opens directly in our site's viewer, not in Adobe. You can see what I mean here.
Some people may want to open a version in Adobe or some other viewer (like Chrome's built-in viewer). You can still do that. Just click on the red, Adobe Acrobat symbol on our viewer's toolbar. That will open the document in the browser, using your default viewer, and give you a URL like this: http://www.worldtradelaw.net/reports/wtoab/ec-sealproducts(ab).pdf.download Click here to see.
And if you want to link to an AB report or other document that is hosted on our site, any of those URLs will work. But only the last one uses the browser viewer directly.
