VACANCY JUNIOR LEGAL RESEARCHER
International Economic Law
The Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies and the Institute for International Law of the
Katholieke Universiteit Leuven are looking for a full-time junior legal researcher for an interdisciplinary
research project on the relationship between Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Human
Development funded by the Federal Government. The project is part of a larger set of projects which
focus on ‘Democratic Governance and Reflexive Theory of Collective Action.’ The project examines, in
particular, the impact of FDI liberalization has on human development, through the conclusion of
international investment agreements, whether under the form of bilateral investment treaties (BITs),
regional trade agreements (RTAs) or multilateral treaties (WTO; GATS, TRIMS). Combining legal and
economic expertise, the research aims to offer an in-depth diagnosis on the opportunities and risks
associated with the various tools seeking to encourage FDI. This will enable the researchers to put
forward policy proposals on improving the impact of FDI on sustainable development.
